THE SORRENTIS

Genious trio, Davide, Vanina and Mario.

This is my favorite post ever, the Sorrenti photography clan is one of the most important families in the fashion world, mother Francesca was a hip fashion photographer during the seventies and became a very important book editor and creative force in the book publishing business. Francesca, her husband and their three children moved from Italy to New York in 1981, due to one of the son's health problems, and got established there.
This is my homage to the 3 Sorrenti kids and to how their talent gave fashion photography a whole new form.

MARIO SORRENTI (b.1971)
The oldest of the clan, probably one of the top 3 best fashion photographers of all time, his career exploded when he was discovered in 1990 by Calvin Klein and was commissioned to shoot a raw and ultra natural Ad campaign featuring Kate Moss (his girlfriend at the time), becoming a regular in big name glossies during the 90s.
His style is sleek, sexy and experimental, he was one of the first mega-pro that jumped fully into the digital wagon, his campaigns for Cesare Paccioti, Jill Sander, Calvin Klein and many other names are legendary. He's one of the most prolific shooters nowadays and a huge influence in my career, he's without a doubt my favorite photographer ever and one of the most sophisticated minds in the fashion/art world.

VANINA SORRENTI (b.1973)
Started her career in fashion as a stylist around 1993, her friendship with Armelle Leturq, from Crash magazine, helped her get started and the magazine was a great platform for taking photographs. Being Mario's sister, Vanina was in a very weird place when she decided to start a photography career, but a very personal, natural and organic style defined her as a very different artist. Nowadays, Vanina is growing a family and more focused on art but is still producing striking images for clients around the world.
VANINA SORRENTI (1973)

DAVIDE SORRENTI (b.1976-1997)
The youngest sibling and probably the most controversial, he was raised in Lower Eastside NYC and quickly became absorbed by that lifestyle, he was the originator of the famous skate/graffiti SKE crew.
At 17, Davide met famous model James King, and started a relationship that would last until his death at the age of 20, it was around this time that he started documenting his environment and developed a very dark and sincere style that people would later label as "heroin chic". His images started getting published in 90's cult publications like Detour and Raygun. Davide suffered from Thalassemia, a very rare case of hereditary anemia that made him look much younger than he was. His battle with a fragile health lead to Mario's photo documentary called "The Machine", that was later turned into a book.
Davide's career was cut short by a mix of bad health and heroin abuse and the art/fashion world lost his most promising rising star. Some people claim Davide's talent was equal to or greater than the geniality of his older brother, but I guess we'll never know.
DAVIDE SORRENTI (1976-1997)
